Thor and the Mjolnir

Thor and the Mjolnir

I have a action thriller review  from the Realm Eternal, Asgard.

The movie begins in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico, in the open desert at night.  Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy are listening for another signal from space.  The last 17 occurrences were predictable to the second.  Jane agrees with Erik, “There is a connection between these atmospheric disturbances and my research.”  They are in Jane’s research van.

As they listen, the night sky begins to brighten and open.  It appears like some type of aurora.  Darcy frantically drives closer, as Jane records.  Darcy is Jane’s research assistant.  She is earning six college credits for helping Jane.

The night sky opens and what appears to be a meteor hurls to earth.  The meteor is a person.  Darcy almost runs over this mysterious stranger.

The movie switches to Asgard.  Odin Allfather tells a story to his two young sons, Thor and Loki.  The story begins in Tonsberg, Norway.  965 A.D.  “Once mankind accepted the simple truth, we are not alone in the universe.

Laufrey, King of the Frost Giants, "The Jotuns"

Laufrey, King of the Frost Giants, “The Jotuns”

From a ream of cold and darkness came the Frost Giants.  They threatened to plunge the mortal world into a new ice age.  Humanity did not face this threat alone.  An army appeared from Asgard to fight the Frost Giants.  The Asgard army drove the Frost Giants back to their own world.

After the great battle, back on Jotunheim, the Frost Giant King was defeated by Odin Allfather.  Loki took the Frost Giants source of power as Loki and Odin Allfather returned to Asgard.

That was the last great war.  Odin Allfather and his army returned home to the Realm Eternal, Asgard.

Asgard is on the bottom of its planet, on a mountaintop.  It is surrounded by water.  Asgard is a spectacular futuristic city.  Her warriors brought peace to the universe.  The source of the Frost Giants power remains on Asgard.”  Odin Allfather’s story to his sons, Thor and Loki ends.

Odin Allfather and the Mjolnir

Odin Allfather and the Mjolnir

Many years have passed:  We get a look at the Mjolnir, the mighty Hammer.  “Only one can be King,” Odin Allfather speaks to the people during Thor’s coronation, “Many years ago… my heir, my firstborn, entrusted with the mighty hammer, “Mjolnir,” forged in the heart of a dying star.  Its power has no equal as a weapon to destroy or as a tool to build.  It is a fitting companion for a “King.”  I, Odin Allfather, have defended Asgard and the innocent of the Nine Realms since the time of the great beginnings.”  As Thor takes the oath to be King of Asgard, the Frost Giants are stealing their power source, thus interrupting the coronation.  A Destroyer killed everyone in the area and took the power source but left the Casket.  Odin Allfather declares, “The Casket is safe.  I Odin Allfather have a truce with Laufey, King of the Jotuns.  That is why he did not take the Casket.”

Thor and Odin quarrel.  Thor wants to go to Jotunheim and teach the Frost Giants a lesson for invading Asgard.  Odin overrules him and says no.

Thor and his friends, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Sif go to Jotunheim behind Odin Allfather’s back.  As they are almost defeated, Odin Allfather comes to their rescue and takes them back to Asgard.  Odin Allfather strips Thor of his powers and banishes him to earth for his defiance.  Odin sends the “Mjolnir” to earth as well.

Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy find Thor.  Darcy almost runs over him with the research van.  The hammer is also found.  No one can lift it.

Agent Coulson with S.H.I.E.L.D. confiscates Jane’s research fan.

Back on Asgard, Loki learns that he is a Frost Giant.  He confronts Odin Allfather.  Allfather becomes ill.  He goes into an Odin sleep.  Loki takes over the thrown.  Thor’s friends, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Sif talk to the new King, Loki.  They want to help Thor and bring him back.  Loki refuses.

Thor and Jane go after the hammer.  When they find it, Thor cannot lift it. No one can.

Loki has a sinister plan.  He wants Laufey to kill Odin Allfather in exchange for the Casket.  The Casket will restore Jotunheim to its former self.  Instead, Loki kills Laufey.

Thor’s four friends, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Sif go to earth to help Thor.

Loki sends a Frost Giant Destroyer to earth.  In a final battle on earth, Thor battles the Destroyer in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico.  The Destroyer almost kills him.  Odin Allfather then finds Thor worthy of the power of the “Mjolnir.”  The mighty Hammer.  He sends the “Mjolnir” to Thor.  Thor’s powers return.  He defeats the Destroyer.

Thor and his friends, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Sif return to Asgard.  Thor and Loki do battle on the Bifrost.

Loki attempts to destroy Jotunheim with the Bifrost.  To save the Jotunheim race, Thor destroys the Bifrost.  By doing so, he cannot get back to see his new love, Jane Foster.

The movie ends as Jane is attempting to find a new way for Thor to return.  She is very persistent.

Thor is an awesome movie.  Loki plays a very good antagonist.  I wonder if he lives at the end when he falls from the broken Bifrost into space.  This movie has tremendous special effects.  It is well written.  Thor is a great movie.
