Art Nekuma Has Double The Worries

0

Dear horror fans,

When I wrote the Maxx Zeqster Creepy Cases, I wanted a crippling, mutating disease and a revolting asylum to institutionalize the unfortunate victims. Doxer fever and Dunjyn Asylun were the answers to my imaginative search.

This is an excerpt from The Dunjyn Asylum Escape. This brief cut from my story includes both features and a lot more.

***

Rydon was lying on his small bed in his rented room in Tos-Xiron. He was burning up with fever. His red rash covered arms and hands were unbearably painful. The grotesque red rash was spreading to his body. He thought as he lay feverous on his bed, “I need to go to Tos-Xiron Mitzid Hospital.”

The Dunjyn Asylum EscapeHe slowly and painfully crawled out of his drooping bed while moaning. His clothes were soaked with his fever perspiration. He slowly and painfully put on fresh clothes. “Oh…,” he moaned.

Rydon slowly exited the room and entered his small, rusty car. He had trouble focusing as he drove due to his high fever. He incoherently drove the short distance to Tos-Xiron Mitzid Emergency Entrance. Parked and hobbled inside.

The emergency room attendants quickly surrounded him and evaluated his condition. The staff recognized his condition and assigned Dr. Teqre Zewio, doxer fever specialists, to his case. The staff took him straight to a room.

Dr. Zewio was notified of his new patient. He prescribed the overnight treatment. He would check the progress of his new patient tomorrow morning.

~~~
Dr. Zewio entered Rydon Nekuma’s room. “How are you feeling?” he asked as he reviewed the charts.
Rydon painfully replied from his hospital bed, “A little better. Last night was scary. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
Dr. Zewio replied, “Your fever was very high last night. It’s lower today. How is your rash? Let me have a look.” He rolled back Rydon’s blanket. “Your rash is a little better. It isn’t as red as was reported last night. It seems to cover both of your hands, arms, and much of your torso.” He paused to check the charts again. Without looking up. “How did you acquire doxer fever?”
Rydon was shocked. “That’s impossible!” He exclaimed. “I don’t have doxer fever!” Suddenly he remembered the storm. “While distracted by a storm and financial concerns, I unloaded fish and doxers from my boat without gloves. The doxer’s ridged dorsal fins stabbed me several times on both of my hands. I didn’t even notice. I was so distracted,” he said as a panic began. He looked at Dr. Zewio with horror. “Am I going to mutate?” he asked as he trembled.
Dr. Zewio replied, “At this point, I couldn’t say. Doxer fever is a little different for each patient. When did you encounter the doxers?”
“Maybe two weeks ago. I’m not really sure.” He trembled with fear.
“Usually the doxer’s venom reacts much faster than that. With many victims, it’s instantaneous. Your symptoms are developing much slower than usual.”
Trembling he replied, “I had a small case of doxer fever once before. I only got a little rash. It was nothing. Went away quickly.”
“That could explain it. You might have some resistance to the doxer’s venom,” he said with hope.
Rydon looked hopeful as well. “You think that will help? You think that will stop me from mutating?” he asked as he panicked and trembled.
“Only time will tell. For now, I’m going to keep you one more day and continue with the medications that I have you on. Your symptoms should go into remission, at least for a while. Again, only time will tell.”
Terror gripped him as he said, “You mean, I’m going to be sick again?”
Dr. Zewio replied, “I’m afraid that’s the nature of doxer fever. The symptoms seem to repeat. We’ll get you feeling better and send you home.” He quickly exited the room.
Instantly, he recalled Lyndi’s doxer fever. “Her condition slowly progressed to the point she’s in Dunjyn Asylum.” He was horrified. He began to imagine and fear the horrific possibilities of his mutations…
Several Days Later
Rydon was admitted in Tos-Xiron Hospital, again. The doxer fever had returned. He was very sick again. He was terrified as he waited for Dr. Zewio.
Thirty minutes later: Dr. Zewio entered his room and began reading his charts again. “I see you’re back. How do you feel?”
“Not so good.”
“I see from your charts that you came in late last night with the same high fever and painful rash. The staff restarted you on the same medications as I prescribed before. Do you feel they are working?”
“I’m not sure. I don’t feel very good right now. Is there anything else you can do?” Rydon asked while frightened and trembling.
“Let me take a look at your rash.” Dr. Zewio rolled back his blanket. “The rash is covering your torso.” He was alarmed at what he saw. “I’m afraid the mutations have begun. Your hands and arms are in the beginning phase of mutating into doxer fins.”
Dr. Zewio rolled back the blanket on Rydon’s legs. The sight was equally alarming. “It would appear your legs are also mutating. Your feet are mutating into fins as well. You’re also forming a dorsal fin. Are you experiencing bewilderment, psychosis, or incoherence?”
With horror, Rydon replied, “I don’t know!”
“That would be normal. Patients with those symptoms are usually not aware of their condition.” He scanned Rydon’s chart again. “At least your fever is subsided again. I’m afraid at this point, there isn’t anything more I can do for you. I will have you discharged. When the fever returns, give us another visit if you like. I put the medications on your medical records in case you need to return here or somewhere else. I want to make it as easy as possible for you.” He put the charts away. “Good luck.”  Dr. Zewio exited the room.
Rydon was horrified. “I’m mutating. I’m going to be just like Lyndi. I’ll end up in a doxer fever asylum.” As he waited for the staff to discharge him, he continued with his frightening and horrifying thoughts and predictions about his grim future as a doxer fever mutant…
Later That Night
Rydon sighed deeply as he lay on his bed in his small, rented room. “I can feel my fever returning. My body is aching from this rash and mutations.” He wiped the clammy sweat from his forehead.
“My clothes are soaked from my high fever sweat.” He wiped the sweat from his forehead again. “I feel sick. I’m mutating. I hope I don’t have to go to the hospital again.”
He mumbled as he lay on his fever soaked bed, “Mr. Punmirre will want his rent money for this room soon, plus the back shortages I owe him. I don’t have it.”
He wiped the sweat from his forehead as he thought, “My boat rent is also due. Mr. Zinqwin will want his rent money soon plus the back shortages. I don’t have his money either.”
He pondered his dilemma as he wiped his feverous sweat again. “I also owe money to Dymor Zur, my gambling agent in Tos-Xiron. Thanks to this doxer fever, I’m going to lose everything.”
The pain in his hands was becoming unbearable again. He quickly checked his rash and mutations. He was horrified.  “I’m mutating fast! My hands are turning into doxer fins. I’m growing a dorsal fin. My feet are mutating into doxer fins. If I start getting the bewilderment, mania, or delusions, I’ll end up in a doxer fever asylum. I’d rather die!”
He tried to regain his sanity. “I need to remain calm. I don’t have the money that I owe, anybody! I’ve made some powerful enemies. It’s not safe here for me. I’d better leave Tos-Xiron before everyone that I owe money to, comes after me. I’d better leave while I still can.”
He pondered his dangerous dilemma as he feverishly sweated. Due to his high fever, he was soaking through his clothes again. “I’ll leave tonight, after midnight. But where will I go?”  He wiped the fever sweat from his face again.
Three Days Later
Rydon awoke from his feverish sleep. He had fallen asleep in the back of his car again. Now that he had fled from Tos-Xiron, his car, and his clothes that he was wearing were his only possessions. His clothes were soaked from his fever perspiration. “I know my fever is really high again. I feel very sick.”
He peaked at his painful, red, rash covered hands and arms. He was horrified at what he saw. “I’m mutating fast! I’m mutating into a sea doxer! My arms are becoming shorter and my hands are fin-like. This grotesque red rash covers my entire body!” he exclaimed with terror.
Rydon terrifyingly pulled up his pants legs and examined. He was even more horrified at what he saw. “My legs have dorsal fins growing out of the backs of them! My feet are more like fins than feet!” he said with terror. “Can I still walk?”
“I don’t know where I am. I don’t remember how I got here. I don’t know where this is or what time.” He was terrified as he recalled Dr. Zewio’s warning, “A psychosis that includes prolonged bewilderment, mania, delusions, hallucinations, incoherence, and distorted perceptions of reality will soon start.”
Rydon said while panicking, “I’m already experiencing the bewilderment, mania, hallucinations, and delusions. I don’t remember how I got here. I don’t know where I am. I don’t know when this is.”
He was horrified, as he lay soaked from the high fever sweat in his back seat. “I’m mutating fast! The mania and delusions are starting. Soon, I won’t be able to drive or walk.” He was horrified. “The psychosis has started. Soon I won’t be able to think or function.”
Suddenly he remembered Lyndi at Dunjyn Asylum. He was terrified as he thought about the horrific possibility. “I don’t want to be in a doxer fever asylum like Lyndi. I need help. I don’t know where to go. I have to think of something while I can still think.”
Later That Night
Rydon was delirious and grotesquely mutating as he drove. He could hardly stay on the Wyluxx Hwy as he swerved back and forth while attempting to drive with his mutating feet and hands toward Wyluxx City. He was in tremendous pain.
“Am I on the right road?” He wondered as his doxer fever manipulated his brain. He drifted in and out of hallucinations as the psychosis played tricks with his very ill mind. He was swerving back and forth, as he incoherently drove. He wasn’t sure where he was or when it was. “I hope I’m heading toward Wyluxx City.”
The psychosis from his doxer fever was causing him to drift in and out of reality. It was overpowering his sanity. He was experiencing extended periods of prolonged bewilderment, mania, delusions, hallucinations, incoherence, and distorted perceptions of reality. He was experiencing the full effects of the doxer’s powerful venom. “I’m going insane!” he said loudly as he drove toward Wyluxx City.
The pain from his full body grotesque rash and mutations were unbearable, as he swerved. The venom was mutating him into a sea doxer. His arms and hands were mutating into fin like appendages. His legs and feet were mutating into fin like extremities as well.
He was growing a full length, ridged, very sharp, webbed dorsal fin. His dorsal fin started at his forehead, just above his eyes and ran along his back all the way to his lumber where it split. It continued down the back of both of his mutated legs. “The pain from my dorsal fin is excruciating!” he said loudly as he winced from the pain while driving on the Wyluxx Highway through the desert toward Wyluxx City in the blackness of night.
He was incoherent and almost unconscious as he deliriously drove into the Wyluxx City Memorial Hospital Emergency Entrance. The emergency room staff removed him from his car and quickly evaluated his condition and reviewed his medical records.
The staff doctor admitted him into room number 1642 and notified Dr. Vinco Blixs, the hospital’s doxer fever specialist. Dr. Blixs checked Rydon’s medical records and prescribed the same treatments that Dr.  Zewio, doxer fever specialist at Tos-Xiron Mitzid Hospital prescribed, only a stronger dosage. He attempted to lower the extremely high fever and abate the quickly advancing mutations.
The Next Morning
Rydon continued receiving the heavily dosages of medications that Dr. Blixs prescribed the previous night in an attempt to reduce the extremely high fever and force the mutations into remission.
Dr. Blixs entered Rydon’s room. He reviewed his patient’s chart with concerned. “Even with the higher dosages, the medications seem ineffective in abating his mutations,” he thought, “To me, the mutations seem more advanced than what the emergency room doctor previously described on this medical chart, only his fever is improving.”
With alarm, he changed the medications in a frantic attempt to stop the progressing mutations. Thinking, “I’ll know in a few hours if this medication works.”
With little confidence, Dr. Blixs exited the room as Rydon lay in his bed unconscious due to the heavy medication. He had a high fever, grotesque red full-body rash, and was mutating rapidly.
Several Hours Later
Dr. Blixs returned to Rydon’s room. He was still unconscious. Blixs checked the charts again. “At least his fever is improving,” he thought  rolling back his fever sweat soaked blanket in anticipation of improvement. He was alarmed and horrified at what he saw. Rydon’s mutations were progressing at an alarming rate. He appeared more doxer than Seslean. Dr. Blixs shook his head as he made the grim decision. He thought shaking his head. Staring at the floor, “I’m powerless to slow the mutations.” He exited the room.
He walked to his office. “Nurse Koytin, get me Rydon Nekuma’s family,” he said grimly.
Nurse Kaayt Koytin searched on her computer. She was alarmed at what she read. “His former wife Lyndi Nekuma is a resident in Dunjyn Asylum. His son lives here in town. His name is Arthor Nekuma. His phone number is 577-301-22.”
Dr. Blixs dialed Arthor Nekuma’s phone number.
At Art’s Home in Wyluxx City
Arthor Nekuma, Detective Maxx Zeqster’s unlicensed apprentice, had just arrived home after buying a few groceries and a magazine at LyMuuke’s Food Center in Wyluxx City.
He was sitting on his well-worn, frugal couch while eating and reading. He was enjoying a copy of The Visqaser Report, “Who is Sesla and Who Are Her Coteries,” which he purchased at the store. The monthly geological, historical, medical and science magazine that Dr. Krag Visqaser, MD and Dr. Qen Pytmor, PhD, scientists started fifteen years ago during their later retirement. An article by freelance science writer J.A. Ireland entitled: Qashlet Laboratories Facilities, Dr. Rewqust, Insists Sesleans Evolved from the Sea Doxer
The Visqaser Report: Recently, my esteemed colleagues and I interviewed Dr. Rewqust at Qashlet Laboratories Facility in Guytic City. In attendance were Sygil Zeeg, Guytic City TV Science Editor; Ti Wopqir, Kinkorx TV Science Editor; and myself.
We discussed the genetic similarities between Sesleans and the sea doxer with the respected scientist. Due to Dr. Rewqust’s refusal, we were unable to address the very controversial, DNA genetic engineering experiments, or the other questionable research that his scientists at Qashlet Lab are working on.
Dr. Rewqust feels the scientific evidence is irrefutable. He stated, “There are many genetic similarities between our species and the doxer. Sesleans have fair, leathery skin like the doxer. All Sesleans feet have a fin-like look and structure that is similar to the doxer. We have a sharp row of bone in the entrance of our mouths like many of the doxer species but not all.
Their young hatch from eggs, as do ours.
The doxers has a webbed dorsal fin that runs the entire length of its elongated leathery body. Sesleans have the genetic remains of the dorsal fin running down our backs and the back of our legs. This partial dorsal fin is visible on many coteries, and is perhaps the strongest evidence of our genetic connection.
The evidence is overwhelming, even though many Sesleans choose to ignore it. The genetic similarities strongly suggest our evolution. The mutations that occur because of doxer fever validate the genetic similarities as well. Frankly, I do not understand the controversy or the outrage.”
It would seem that Dr. Rewqust agrees with his colleagues that Sesleans are genetically similar to the sea doxer. However, he failed to prove the scientific theory that Sesleans are an evolved species, evolved directly from the doxer. That scientific theory remains just that a theory. The theory also remains unaccepted in most circles, circles that are non-scientific.
After reading the article, Art thought sadly, “That would explain mom’s condition. She’s mutated into half Seslean and half sea doxer. She even swims like a doxer when she dreams.”
Suddenly he remembered his road trip to the Qashlet Lab. He thought, “We sure outsmarted Dr. Rewqust and his Mad scientists when we rescued Dr. Leqtus Kin, the genetic engineer, from his clutches, right under his noses. His thug, Fyrtee Huytek, was going to inject Leqtus Kin with doxer venom and enjoy watching him mutate.” He laughed.
Suddenly his phone began to ring. “That must be my boss, Detective Zeqster,”   He hurried to the phone. “Hello,” he said with a smile as he anticipated his cherished employer, Detective Maxx Zeqster.
“This is Dr. Vinco Blixs from Wyluxx City Memorial Hospital. Is this Arthor Nekuma?”
Art was horrified. He wondered frantically if his mom was in the hospital. “This is Art. What’s wrong with my mom?”
Dr. Blixs replied grimly, “This is about your father. He’s here at Wyluxx City Memorial, he’s very ill. Can you come over?”
Art was shocked. “What! I’ve never seen my father.  I’ll be right there.” He hurried out of the house and jumped into his car. He hysterically drove to the hospital. It was a brief, but panic filled drive.
A Short Time Later
Upon arriving at the nurse’s desk, Art asked, “Rydon Nekuma’s room number please?”
“Are you a relative?” asked Nurse TeDia Beem while sitting at her desk.
He paused. “I’m his son,” he replied uncomfortably with hesitation.
She began searching for his name. She had difficulty finding it. Sighed with irritation. “Spell it,” she said.
He shook his head with exasperation. “N…E…K…U…M…A!”
She did not appreciate the demeaning, exasperated look or sarcasm. She scowled as she said, “He’s in room 1642. It’s just down the hall.” Pointing.
“Thanks.” He hurried along the hallway to his dad’s room.
As he entered room 1642, Dr. Blixs was examining his father’s chart. “I’m Art, we spoke on the phone,” he said while still in shock.
Dr. Blixs put down his charts. “Your father admitted himself last night. He’s suffering from acute doxer fever. I have him on the strongest medications available. His fever is reduced,” he frowned. “I have been unsuccessful in slowing his mutations. Take a look,” he said as he pulled back Rydon’s blanket.
Art was horrified at what he saw. The unfamiliar Seslean lying there was unconscious. He was more doxer than Seslean. His arms and hands were long mutated fins. His legs and feet were mutated, disfigured appendages with malformed fins. He had a prominent dorsal fin running the entire length of his forehead, back, and the back of his mutated legs. A grotesque red rash covered his entire mutated body. The ghastly sights instantly made Art feel sick.
Dr. Blixs continued. “There is nothing additional that I can do for him. My recommendation is to assign him to a doxer fever asylum. Asylum doctors can continue with these medications. Hopefully in time he will improve,” said the doctor grimly.
Art was horrified. “What about his,” he paused to control his nausea, “mutations?”
“As I said, there seems to be very little that I can do to lessen or even stabilize them. An asylum doctor can continue these medications. Let the nurse’s staff know what your decision is.” He quickly exited the room.
Art stood next to his doxer fever stricken father. His shock was overwhelming. He thought for a moment. He made his decision. He walked back to the nurse’s station. Nurse Beem was still working the desk. “What did you decide?” she asked coldly as she anticipated his decision.
“I’m putting him in Dunjyn Asylum.”
She was horrified at his cruel, uncaring decision. “Are you sure?”
He ignored her strong body language. “Yes,” stating strongly.
“Ok…I’ll have him transported there immediately. He’ll be there in less than an hour,” she said with a disgusted, “How can you put your parents in Dunjyn Asylum?” expression.
Art further ordered as she glared with disdain, “Put him in room 38. It’s the room next to Lyndi Nekuma, my mother. It’s available.”
Nurse Beem was appalled, and shocked. “You’re in charge. I’ll take care of it. He’ll be there in about an hour,” she stated disgustedly.
Art walked away from the nurse’s desk. He thought as he walked toward the exit, “I’ll check on them tomorrow. I’m sure Dr. Neafyndrer will handle the situation properly.” He sighed as he walked and thought, “Now both of my parents are in Dunjyn Asylum. I have double the worries.”
Art exited the hospital and began his short drive home.
Dear readers,
When I wrote The Unthinkable Duo Of Justice, I envisioned a powerhouse writing personality in Kinkorx. I wanted someone who was established. A powerful coterie personality in the desert.  A newspaper columnists, science writer, and sports announcer.
J.A. Ireland the writer on Sesla
J.A. Ireland the writer on Sesla
I created this successful, well-known prodigy, to be a media phenomenon and dynamo writer.  He lives  in Kinkorx—the largest city in the desert of Sesla. He is genetically a Miflixx-Coterie. The average of Sesla.
He is a writer and a blogger, with a family. His office is in a high-rise building in downtown Kinkorx. I gave him the name on Sesla, J.A. Ireland, as well. He writes a column for several daily newspapers as well as a monthly science report; The Visqaser Report. He is the most powerful writer in the desert.
J.A. is also a prominent mesnuk announcer in Kinkorx. Mesnuk is the global sport on Sesla.
I use J.A. regularly in my books to increase the authenticity of the event or report. If the event, mesnuk game, or story is big enough for J.A. Ireland to report or announce it—it’s a Big event.
In a posting from this blog, Sesla…The Enchanted Planet in the Whirlpool Galaxy, I used J.A. to tell that entire description about Sesla, her topography, and her beloved coteries. Here is a brief excerpt from that lengthy article:
My name is J.A. Ireland. I am a Seslean of the Miflixx-Coterie clan. I live in beautiful downtown Kinkorx with my family. I am a professional writer. My office is on the 12th floor of the beautiful Grexenn Building, also in downtown Kinkorx. From my large, windowed, high-rise office, I enjoy a spectacular view of the morning sunrise over the multicolored desert. The view from my office desk, with my morning tea, is breathtaking. My office is near The Mesnuk Stadium Downtown. I can see the spectacular structure from my window. This is the home of the Kinkorx Horned Hares, our professional mesnuk team.
Kinkorx is a bustling and beautiful, magical desert city. She is the delight of Xcuymir Territory. Xcuymir Territory is one of the mysterious and breathtaking territories of the desert region on Sesla.
I would like to tell you about the mystical planet; Sesla. I would also like to tell you about her beloved coteries. I will begin by sharing a secret with you. Before time was measured, when the Croster Slux Solar System formed, the Whirlpool Galaxy gave the sun the task of naming the planets. The fifth planet in the solar system balked at this absurd idea. She wanted to choose her own name. The sun, of course, did not agree. The very bold fifth planet stood her ground. Eventually, the sun conceded and gave the planet her wish. She chose the name Sesla, which means “Enchanted Planet” in the Whirlpool Galaxy. It’s a charming name, don’t you think?
I also use J.A. to tell stories about Sesla. If you follow my blog, Sesla is a happening planet with a lot going on. Big things are happening in the desert all the way to the wet lands. And all the way in between.
I use J.A. to report these good and often times very alarming events.
Luckily for J.A.’s friend Detective Maxx Zeqster, there’s plenty of crime as well. Maxx and his partner, Art Nekuma are very good at solving crimes and putting the perpetrators behind bars.
Also if you follow my articles or read my books, you already know we are able to read his articles via the new space tower at Kinkorx Observatory. It is a modern wonder on Sesla. This space tower can transmit a signal all the way from the Whirlpool Galaxy to the Milky Way Galaxy at any time through space. Told you it’s a modern wonder.
Who knows what inventions lie ahead in their future? Seslean scientists are brilliant. Perhaps teleportation is in Seslean’s future? Who knows? There’s one thing I’ve learned, on Sesla, anything is possible—with a little help from Sesla herself.
Stay tuned. I’ll share more of my personalities from Sesla…The Enchanted Planet.
Until we talk again.
Young Maxx Zeqster
0
Dear Readers,
I’m J.A. Ireland. Here’s an excerpt from The Unthinkable Duo Of Justice. I hope you find it interesting.
Maxx, the 10th grade art student at Kinkorx High School, proudly stood next to his picturesque landscape painting. He was excited to have an example of his work on display at the Art Fair at his high school.
Art Supplies
Maxx’s Landscape Portrait Art Equipment
Every year, Mrs. Watersmyth held her annual Art Fair at the Kinkorx High School where she was the high school art teacher. This year contained possibly her best talent ever. She had several very gifted students who were proudly displaying their best work. Each artist displayed one painting in the show. It was the artist’s own decision to choose a single painting that exemplified their unique artistic talent.
As a tenth grade artist, Maxx proudly stood next to his acrylic painting. On this painting, he used a direct painting technique to apply paint thickly, straight from the tube. This technique gave his landscape portrait an opaque appearance. He then used a sponge to further the application, creating a patterned effect.
The entire gymnasium displayed exciting works from not only Mrs. Watersmyth’s art class, but other area high schools art student’s work as well. It was a splendid show of student art. The area art teachers who had competing art students in the show were the judges.
It was time for the judging. There were five sought after ribbons. The teachers would award the coveted ribbons. Mrs. Watersmyth would serve as the chief judge. Due to the uneven number of judges, she also had the deciding vote. Ultimately, she could decide the winners.
The student artists stood proudly next to their single exhibit as the judging commenced. The teachers slowly made their way through the gymnasium. They carefully scrutinized each painting. They were judging on the overall talent of the artists and on the uniqueness of the painting. In addition, they were interested in how well the artists understood their subject.
Maxx’s anxieties were raging as he impatiently waited for his judging. His hands were sweaty and his face was perspiring. His anxious heart was racing as he waited.
The judges were slowly making their way around the large room. Previously, Mrs. Watersmyth had persuaded him to enter the exhibit. She thought he had real talent as a landscape artist. Since she was the lead judge, he fully expected to win a ribbon. He was inwardly exploding with anticipation.
The judges were slowly making their way down his row. He was bursting with expectation as he wondered. “Could I possibly win first prize?” The idea was enchanting as he anxiously anticipated.
His painting was next. He began to lose his grip. He rubbed his sweaty hands on his casual pants and he quickly and discretely wiped the flowing perspiration from his brow, as his heart raced.
The judges finally walked to his painting. They carefully examined it. They were very careful not to reveal any hints as to what they were thinking as they slowly judged his painting. His emotions were overpowering him as he stood helplessly and watched. His tense expectations were almost uncontrollable as he inwardly expected to receive an award.
The judges sauntered on to the next edgy artists. Maxx stood by his landscape portrait as he impatiently waited for the judges to finish their work. Inwardly, he was sure of a ribbon, maybe even first place. He already knew where he would be placing it in his room.
The judges ambled past the remaining artists one by one. They gave each painting equal time. Finally, they were finished with their evaluations. The esteemed judges walked to their table and began their difficult but very pleasurable decisions as the panicky artists waited in agony.
They entered their votes as to which artists won each of the five ribbons. They split their votes. That gave Mrs. Watersmyth the deciding vote on all five awards. For each ribbon, she had the deciding vote. One by one, she made her decisions.
She was down to the last ribbon. It was a tie between Maxx Zeqster’s acrylic landscape portrait and another students painting from Mr. Wittnex’s class. She would make the final choice.
The other judges were confident that she would choose her student over Mr. Wittnex’s art student. She had made the same choice on the previous tiebreakers that were between her students and theirs.
As she pondered her choice, her mind flashed back to the recent phone conversation that Maxx’s mother, Winox Zeqster, had with her. Mrs. Zeqster stated, “Maxx told me you encouraged him to enter the art contest. He has a tendency toward foolish ideas. He has already chosen his career. Make sure he isn’t distracted.” Because of her husband, Winox was very prominent and powerful in the community. Mrs. Watersmyth didn’t need the trouble that would follow if she ignored Winox Zeqster’s instructions.
She inwardly sorrowed as she stated, “Mr. Wittnex, I’ve decided the fifth place ribbon will be going to your student.
Mr. Wittnex was delighted and shocked. The other judges were irritated. The delighted Mr. Wittnex declared, “Let’s hand out the ribbons!”
Maxx’s heart raced with eager anticipation as he watched the judges, as they begin handing out the awards. He was very confident he would receive a ribbon, maybe even first place. After all, his acrylic landscape portrait was the best painting there.
As he watched, the judges, led by Mrs. Watersmyth, delivered the first place ribbon. It went to one of his fellow art students. He was somewhat disappointed.
He watched as the judges issued the second and third place ribbons. They also went to his fellow classmates. He was becoming inwardly upset.
As he watched, the judges issued the fourth place ribbon to another one of his classmates. He knew that he was a better artist than she was. His heart began to hurt. His eyes were attempting to tear.
His heart was racing with painful anxiety and his chest hurt as he watched with anticipation as Mr. Wittnex proudly issued the final ribbon to one of his students.
The ribbon awarding was over and he had not won a single award. His heart was broken. He was devastated. He felt that his painting was better than many of the winners. He wanted to cry, but he knew he could not. He valiantly fought back his tears. He quickly dismantled his art display as he shielded his teary eyes from his fellow artists. He quickly left the art show with his property as not to show his devastation.
That Same Night; He was having dinner with his parents. He was depressed as he ignored his food. He had no appetite.
His parents knew he just participated in an art contest. His mother noticed his depressed mood. “How was the art show?”
“I didn’t win any awards,” Maxx said depressingly.
Winox responded, “You’ve already decided to go to The University of Kinkorx to be a detective like your father. Not getting a ribbon was the best thing for you.”
Immediately he knew. “You told Mrs. Watersmyth to give the ribbons to other artists. Mom, I’m a better painter than they are. How could you?” He was angry and devastated.
His mother scowled at him. “You’ve already chosen your career. You don’t need any distractions right now.”
His anger and inner pain was raging. “You’ve determined my career choice. Maybe I don’t want to be a detective. What if I want to be an artist or an astronomer?” He was devastated. He quickly left the table and went to his room where he quietly began to cry.
At His Home In Bedsult; Maxx’s mind flashed back to reality. He was having a cup of tea as he remembered the painful art show from his youth. He shook his head at his naiveté when he was a child. “I should have known not to enter that art contest. At that time, I didn’t realize how limited my control was over my life or my future.” He smiled in astonishment at his innocence.
He sighed in an attempted to regain his focus. “Wesloff Qezerr, the manager of The Mesnuk Stadium Downtown never called. Now that I know Jen’s full name and last address, maybe he can give me more information. I’ll visit him again.” He nodded his head.    The excerpt ends.
This segment further defines Maxx’s character. A large part of his compassion as an adult is due to the pain he endured as a child and early adult.  Arguably, the reason he accepts a relationship with Art Nekuma, the Pirtt-Coterie, is due to his inner pain.
May good fortune guide your path,
Sesla…The Enchanted Planet in the Whirlpool Galaxy
0
Greetings from Sesla,
My name is J.A. Ireland. I am a Seslean of the Miflixx-Coterie clan. I live in beautiful downtown Kinkorx with my family. I am a professional writer. My office is on the 12th floor of the beautiful Grexenn Building, also in downtown Kinkorx. From my large, windowed, high-rise office, I enjoy a spectacular view of the morning sunrise over the multicolored desert. The view from my office desk, with my morning tea, is breathtaking. My office is near The Mesnuk Stadium Downtown. I can see the spectacular structure from my window. This is the home of the Kinkorx Horned Hares, our professional mesnuk team.
Kinkorx is a bustling and beautiful, magical desert city. She is the delight of Xcuymir Territory. Xcuymir Territory is one of the mysterious and breathtaking territories of the desert region on Sesla.
Kinkorx Desert Flowers
I would like to tell you about the mystical planet; Sesla. I would also like to tell you about her beloved coteries. I will begin by sharing a secret with you. Before time was measured, when the Croster Slux Solar System formed, the Whirlpool Galaxy gave the sun the task of naming the planets. The fifth planet in the solar system balked at this absurd idea. She wanted to choose her own name. The sun, of course, did not agree. The very bold fifth planet stood her ground. Eventually, the sun conceded and gave the planet her wish. She chose the name Sesla, which means “Enchanted Planet” in the Whirlpool Galaxy. It’s a charming name, don’t you think?
Sesla is a beautiful, small planet that is part of the Croster Slux Solar System. She is the fifth planet from her sun of twelve undersized planets. These planets all know each other very well, and are close friends. Sesla’s solar system, the Croster Slux Solar System, exists within the Whirlpool Galaxy.
Whirlpool Galaxy
                     Whirlpool Galaxy
The Whirlpool Galaxy, where the Croster Slux Solar System spirals inside and Sesla spirals within it is a bright galaxy. She is much brighter than her friend the Milky Way. The Whirlpool Galaxy is 23.5 million light years away from its neighbor and close friend, the Milky Way. These two galaxies have always had a bond. They are very good friends. The Whirlpool Galaxy is a very friendly galaxy, and it has many other friends in the vast universe as well.
Her other planetary friends in the Croster Slux Solar System all support life. However, their planetary life is much different from the life on Sesla. Sesla’s perfect climate and terrain allows its remarkable citizens to evolve, live, and thrive.
Due to Sesla’s beloved inhabitants, her magical animals and plants, and her diverse regions, she appears to be a happy planet that is teaming with life and personality. On this beautiful and dreamlike planet, the coteries have evolved to be the dominate species because of their adaptability to the hot, dry climate of the deserts, as well as the cooler, damp, rainier climate of the wet lands.
Most of the spectacular residents of this beautiful planet would all agree that Sesla is a mystical planet. Sesla seems to have a character of her own.
Sesla is proud of her beloved coteries, her desert terrain, her seacoast, her seas, and her wet lands. Each spectacular feature on this magnificently beautiful planet has its own exceptional features and unique splendor. She is delighted by and cares immensely for her beloved inhabitants. Her many clans of citizens refer to themselves as coteries. Her beloved coteries form the attractive population of this picturesque planet.
All coteries have attractive leathery skin. Their skin has an alluring appeal. Their pleasing complexion, along with their thick, wavy, flowing hair, adds to their attractive nature.
Sesleans have two arms and hands with five fingers. They have two legs with fin like feet. They have a miniscule dorsal fin that runs down the center of their back. The fin splits at their lumbar, and continues down the back of both of their legs. It is more visible on some coteries and less on others.
They have a sharp row of bone in the entrance to their mouths. This serves them well for biting and tearing of their food, which they then swallow.
Their young hatch from eggs.
The Mesnuk Stadium Downtown in Kinkorx
The many coteries of Sesla are, by their very nature, a very athletic race. For this reason, their global sport, mesnuk, is extremely popular. Actually, mesnuk is the only sport on Sesla. There are numerous professional mesnuk teams and stadiums positioned throughout our planet. Almost every school and town has its own mesnuk team and field.
Mesnuk is a very simple, fast-paced team sport that young coteries learn and play during childhood. Competitions begin during youth and go to the professional level. Mesnuk is simple with full contact. There are two separate seasons in the sport of mesnuk. The first is “The Set of Games,” followed by “It’s the Rallies.” The winner of “It’s the Rallies” is the Sesla Mesnuk Champion. In the sport of mesnuk, there have never been pads allowed, and there never will be. The sport is simple and brutal.
Sesla’s very proud and spectacular citizens have evolved to permit walking upright and the wearing of very fashionable clothing. They are educated at many different universities, some more prestigious than others. Some become judges and law enforcement personnel, while others choose to be astronomers, aviators, doctors, and scientists, just to name a few. Others prefer different forms of employment that allow for lesser levels of education. There is no end to the different professions on Sesla.
The clans of Sesla group into different coteries. In the desert territories, the residents are the Razion-Coterie, KyMox-Coterie, Miflixx-Coterie, and the Pirtt-Coterie. The Razions are the highest status and the tallest, while the Pirtts are the lowest status and the shortest. The others fall in between. Joyously for the Razions, they are the tallest coteries on Sesla. Unfortunately, for the Pirtts, they are the lowest, in both status and height of the coteries on Sesla.
In the desert territories, the Joxel is the financial currency.
Sesla’s desert terrain has its own unique beauty. The natural beauty of this area is picturesque. The desert offers unlimited ancient and unusual colored stone formations, as well as a multitude of natural desert flowers that add to the scenic beauty. The multicolored sand adds to the picturesque splendor of the vast, ancient, unchanging desert.
Sunset on Sesla Desert
One Spectacular Sunset on Sesla in the Desert
Her desert sunsets are also quite spectacular. The sky seems to light up with majestic colors as her sun sets. Due to the picturesque desert views, many artists through the centuries have taken great pleasure in painting her alluring desert landscape. The picturesque views of this magical and mystical desert are infinite.
The desert terrain also offers hills and valleys, beautifully breathtaking canyons, along with other rolling picturesque desert topography. The desert terrain is teaming with an abundance of enchanted plants and animals. Many of the captivating and mystical desert plants have beautiful, fragrant flowers.
Many of Sesla’s beloved coteries live in the desert climate. They are more comfortable in the very dry, desert climates. These inhabitants prefer living in the beautiful, scenic, desert topography with all of its spectacular colors. The alluring mystery of the ancient stone formations, along with different colored desert sand, is pleasing to them. These coteries seem to enjoy the many varieties of aromatic, flowering plant life in the desert. They seem to appreciate the absence of rain that characterizes the very hot and dry desert terrain on Sesla.
The buildings in the desert are not as impressive as the wet land buildings, but they are still very beautiful. Many desert structures are older stone and bricks structures. Many of the desert residents use adobe bricks with stucco to build their homes and structures.
The residents with more Joxels have also constructed lavish stone fronts and spectacular stone columns on their buildings.
The two largest and most majestic desert cities are Kinkorx and Wyluxx City. They are both very vibrant desert cities that offer much splendor and lifestyle opportunities for their coteries. The desert coteries that built these cities have also used advanced architecture in their designs. They built these weather resistant structures using ancient desert stones as well as adobe bricks and stucco fillers. The magnificently crafted stone columns that grace the front of many businesses in the desert cities are stunning to view. The skill that is required to create these artistic column fronts and other stonework is considerable.
The most advanced and astonishing structure in Kinkorx is The Mesnuk Stadium Downtown. With its state of the art enclosed design, it is the pride of Kinkorx. The Kinkorx Horned Hares have the pleasure of calling this incredibly designed and built mesnuk stadium their home.
Wyluxx City enjoys its own mesnuk stadium. The exciting Wyluxx City Stadium is a tribute to the ingenuity of the Wyluxx City engineers and builders. The Wyluxx City Generals enjoy calling this mesnuk stadium their home.
The desert coteries have also built many other beautiful and extraordinary homes and businesses in several other rural cities in the desert territories.
The care that these coteries take in their landscape work is equally inspiring. The many homes and businesses in this climate reflect this ingenuity.
                    Mystical Sesla Sea
The many roadside parks in the desert territories also display these talents. When driving along the many well-maintained desert roads, there are numerous lavishly designed pullovers. They are for resting, as well as enjoyable viewing and painting.
In the seaport territory, the residents are the Iinzler-Coteries. The Iinzlers are the native coteries of the seaport. They are the merchants and boat owners, as well as landowners. The Iinzlers mostly own and operate their charming little fishing and resort town. There are exceptions to that rule, but they are few. The Iinzlers are of reasonable status due to their business skills and average height. They tend to be very intolerant with their non-native renters and visitors. They are an impatient and unforgiving group of coteries.
In the seaport territory, both the Joxel and the Mylux are accepted currencies.
Sesla’s seacoast features a popular, quaint, fishing village named Tos-Xiron. With her beaches, waterways, and beautiful parks, it is a remarkable sight. Many of Sesla’s beloved coteries have made this seaport their home.
Tos-Xiron is the only town on Sesla’s sea and the only seaport. Each day, many of her beloved coteries make their living fishing Sesla’s magical and mysterious waters from this charming seaport.
The coteries of Tos-Xiron enjoy mesnuk at their own stadium. Jyitsen Stadium is the home of the Tos-Xiron Doxers. The Mighty Doxers have yet to win a Sesla Mesnuk Championship. Actually, they never seem to go very far in “It’s the Rallies.”
Builders constructed Tos-Xiron partly on both Sesla’s land and sea. This charming fishing village is nestled south of both the wet land territories and the desert territories. It lies on the Sesla Sea between the two contrasting areas of this inspiring and intriguing planet.
Due to Tos-Xiron’s midpoint location, it not only draws its own coteries, the Iinzlers, but others Sesleans as well. Tos-Xiron’s buildings and structures reflect the mixed cultures of the Iinzlers, as well as all of Sesla’s other coteries.
Builders constructed many of her charming homes and businesses using adobe bricks and finished with a stucco exterior, other structures have stone fronts. These buildings seem to exist on the beautiful, multi-colored sandy terrain.
There are also numerous homes and businesses that are constructed directly on the Sesla Sea. These buildings are brilliantly designed and built in a variety of ways to accommodate their watery foundations. Many of these homes float on floating supports, while others are constructed on stilts.
There is also a vast amount of boardwalks in Tos-Xiron. The numerous walkways accommodate the local residents, as well as the many tourists that wish to enjoy a day on the waterfront.
There is a main harbor with numerous boats docked seemingly everywhere. Residents also own many types of watercraft on other areas of Sesla’s seas, waterfronts, lakes, and streams.
One Variety of  the Deadly Sea Doxer
Sesla’s seas are not only beautiful and mystical they are teaming with marine life. Her magical seas have a variety of native fish as well as its very own predator. The sea doxer is the unchallenged, dominating predator species that lives and thrives in Sesla’s vast oceans. The doxer has existed since the beginning of Sesla herself.
The doxer is a fanged, sea creature that lays eggs to reproduce. It has two pectoral fins for steering, and a tail fin for forward motion. Many species also have a large webbed dorsal fin that begins at the doxer’s forehead just above its two eyes, and runs along its back, all the way to its tail fin and is somewhat elongated. The dorsal fin is sharp and ridged. There are several varieties of doxers living in the Sesla seas.
The doxer has a sharp row of bone in the entrance of its powerful mouth for cutting and tearing of its food, which it swallows; some species have fangs.
The doxer is equipped with two venomous weapons that quickly subdue its attacker or prey. The first is its saliva. The doxer’s salivary glands secrete a solution consisting of enzymes, mucus, protein, water, and poison when biting. The second venomous weapon is the ridged, very sharp, dorsal fin. The doxer’s dorsal fin is hollow, and serves as a series of hypodermic needles to deliver the same type of poison as found in its saliva to fight off its attacker. Once the attacker or prey is bitten, pricked, or scratched, the poison’s effects quickly result.
Reactions to the doxer’s venom may vary. If a foolish or unfortunate Seslean, or sea creature, is poisoned, sometimes the poisoning only results in a simple rash or fever, for the lucky ones. For the numerous Sesleans and sea creatures that have engaged the doxer, or have been attacked by the doxer, whether accidentally, foolishly, or as prey, the resulting illness is doxer fever.
Dunjyn Asylum in Wyluxx City
Dunjyn Asylum in Wyluxx City
Doxer fever is widespread throughout Sesla. It sometimes causes a paralysis, but usually causes a psychosis that includes prolonged bewilderment, mania with delusions, hallucinations, incoherence, and distorted perceptions of reality. The worst cases of doxer fever exhibit these mental illnesses, as well sometimes very alarming, frightening, and horrifying mutations. There are several mental hospitals and asylums on Sesla that attempt to treat and accommodate the worst cases of doxer fever. The prisons on Sesla are also plagued with criminals that are nothing more than doxer fever victims that turned to crime.
In the wet lands, the residents are the Qirdotz-Coterie and the Zepler-Coterie. The Qirdotzs are the more prominent and the best-educated coteries on Sesla. They are also the best athletics. With all of this going for them, over time they have adopted a very arrogant, self-righteous, and even snobby attitude. Their sharp, condescending manner makes them very difficult to associate with in social and work environments. The Zepler are the taller of the two coteries. They enjoy their own prominence as well. They are simply not equal to their wet lands neighbors, the Qirdotzs.
In the wet lands territories, the Mylux is the financial currency. Mylux are worth more than Joxels by 15 percent.
Sesla’s wet lands consist of picturesque hills and valleys, spectacular waterfalls, rolling countryside, abundant woodlands, farmlands, marshes, bogs, swamps, and waterways. The wet lands are teaming with enchanted plants and animals.
Sesla provides a considerable amount of rainfall for the dreamlike plants and animals, as well as coteries in the wet lands.
Many of Sesla’s beloved coteries are in the wet lands. They prefer the very marshy, boggy, waterways of the wet lands. In addition, many coteries enjoy the fertile farmlands there as well. They seem to prefer the cooler, damper, rainier weather in this area. They also seem to appreciate the abundant aquatic plant life and creatures that the wet lands offer.
Qashlet Lab is hidden within the swamp.
Qashlet Lab is in the Wet Lands. What are Dr. Rewqust and his Mad  Scientists up to now?
The Qirdotz-Coteries thrive in the wet lands, and are a very brilliant and influential clan. They are the best and brightest, and their wet lands architecture reflects it. They are the dominant species.
The Zepler-Coteries also reside in the wet lands. They are less intelligent and educated than their Qirdotzs neighbors. However, they are also part of Sesla’s upper class.
Sesla’s wet lands residents are better educated and have more prestigious occupations than the desert and seas dwellers. The area highlights these advantages.
The wet lands also feature beautifully constructed cities. The Qirdotzs largely created these works of art.
The two most beautifully impressive and best-loved cities in the wet lands are Guytic City and Kvyutt. These two magnificent cities are the pride of the wet lands. Their marvelously designed buildings are simply brilliant. The creative architectural design that the Qirdotzs used to build the magnificent buildings in these two cities is incredible.
Guytic City also boasts its own very impressively designed and constructed mesnuk stadium. Qashlet Stadium is the home of the Guytic City Fighting Tobacco Farmers. Many Sesleans refer to them as simply the Tobaccos. The Tobaccos have won the Sesla Mesnuk Championship many times.
Kvyutt contains its own professional mesnuk stadium. The Kvyutt Travelers call the Kvyutt Stadium their home. The travelers do not enjoy the same success as the Sesla Champion Tobaccos or their extravagant home stadium.
The wet lands have an abundance of magnificent and creative buildings and roads. There seems to be no end to the wet lander’s design ideas in these towns and cities. The buildings and roads accommodate their unique water climate. Many of them float on the water or are on stilts above water.
There are also many other impressive cities and towns in the wet lands regions that reflect the many influences of the Qirdotz-Coterie. The other unique towns have their own special structures depending on how much water there is in their community.
There seems to be no limit to what the clever and smart Sesleans of the wet lands can conceive and build.
Sesla’s roads throughout the territories are also an engineering marvel. The inhabitants of Sesla are very good at building and maintaining splendid thoroughfares. The different territories on this friendly planet enjoy a series of well-constructed, well-maintained motorways. The highways are not excessive. They are adequate for their needs. Due to the superb road system, the most popular way for Sesleans to travel from city to city is by vehicle. Vehicles are very popular on Sesla, and their diversity is numerous.
Sesla also features a daily aircraft transport system that connects the natives of this beautiful intriguing planet together. Each day, numerous cargo planes fly back and forth from city to city, carrying cargo items. The trade on Sesla is extensive. The cargo planes also carry a limited number of passengers as they commute.
Sesla’s territories have their own government, as well as their own laws. Each territory has their elected officials, as well as their own court system, which enforces their laws. Sometimes these different regional laws can cause controversy and arguments between the territories.
Detective Maxx Zeqster's Private Detective Badge
Detective Maxx Zeqster’s Private Detective Badge
Sesleans engage in many different types of activities. In fact, the residents of Sesla do just about anything that you can think of. They even break the territory laws.
When the local law enforcement authorities are unable to effectively deal with the local crime and criminals, the coteries of Sesla call their own private detectives.
After introducing you to Sesla; our beloved and enchanted planet, this article would not be complete with mentioning my friend and from my POV the best detective on Sesla. I’m referring to Maxx Zeqster, of course. He’s my life long friend and the protagonists of my series; Maxx Zeqster Creepy Cases. As I write more stories about Sesla, I’ll tell you more about him. Thanks for reading. Ja.
Arthor Nekuma; The Pirtt-Coterie
2
Dear scifi readers,
I would like to tell you about the strong supporting character in my Creepy Cases books. I created Art Nekuma to be the exact opposite of Maxx.
Art's Parents Spend Much Time in Dunjyn Asylum
Art’s Parents Spend Much Time in Dunjyn Asylum
Maxx is a genetically gifted Razion-Coterie—the prominent species of the desert—and arguably Sesla.  Art is a Pirtt-Coterie—the exact opposite.
Art is a genetic member of the lowest clan on Sesla—without argument. Even though he was raised by a single mother who suffered from progressive doxer fever and spent years in Dunjyn Asylum, he and him mother had a close relationship.
Even though Art’s peers and teachers during his youth didn’t recognize his well masked talents, his mother did. She encouraged him throughout his young life.
Because of his responsibilities at home, and a sick mother, Art’s grades were less than remarkable. Higher education wasn’t an option. He endured a series of random, degrading jobs, during his youth and as a young adult.
As you can see, Art is the exact opposite of Maxx. He was also a fun character to create.
I hope you found this helpful.
